History
There are many stories about the hookah, as well as many misconceptions. While it was originally used to smoke opium and hashish, it is not always used to smoke dangerous or illegal substances today. In fact, you can use the hookah in many places, even here in the United States, as long as you are over the age of eighteen.
What you smoke in the hookah in many lounges these days will vary depending on your preferences; many people choose to smoke a Turkish blend of tobacco that is far deeper and richer than is typically available. We have over 50 flavors of tobacco, or you could choose the flavors for a costume blend, just for you.
On its way through Persia the hookah acquired tombeik, a dark tobacco which is rinsed and then smoked by applying hot coals to the damp tobacco which gives it a much deeper, richer flavor as well as a cooler feeling smoke.
Where did the hookah originate?
The hookah originated in the northwestern provinces of India, near the Pakistani border. The construction of these early hookahs was much rougher and more functional than what we think of when we hear the word today.
What does a hookah look like?
The first examples of the hookah were made from a coconut shell base with the traditional tubing and head attached.
The design became more elaborate and upscale after it made its way to Turkey and was adopted by the wealthy.
Brass and glass were added to the hookah’s design and less wood was used.
Some of the hookahs that exist today are enormous and can consist of several different design elements that make them practically a work of art.
Today, the hookah can be found in many homes as a functional piece for the smoker or as a show-piece for the non-smoker. It can also be found in the hookah lounges that are being built around the country. Now you can also buy a hookah from us for use at home. Our hookahs are beautiful, well made and most importantly, far more reasonably priced than those at other places.
Another thing that is extremely popular today is Shisha. Essentially, Shisha is flavored tobacco and is used in the hookah. The tobacco that is used is soaked in shavings of various fruits such as grapes, strawberries, apples etc.
